What is a TXT record?
Quick answerA TXT record stores text in DNS. Services use it to prove you control a domain (Google, Microsoft and others give you a verification string), and email security uses it for SPF and DMARC policies. A domain can have many TXT records, but only one SPF record.
TXT records you will usually see
- v=spf1 …: SPF, listing who may send email for the domain
- google-site-verification=…, MS=… and similar: ownership proofs
- v=DMARC1 …: lives at
_dmarc.yourdomain; look it up by typing that name - DKIM keys: live at
selector._domainkey.yourdomain
Verification TXT not working?
- Check you added it to the right host: "@" usually means the root domain.
- Paste the value without extra quotes. Some panels add their own.
- Wait for propagation, then confirm both resolvers return it here.
For a full email-security check, use the SPF & DMARC checker.
Txt record lookup FAQ
Is this txt record lookup free?
Yes, unlimited and free with no sign-up. Queries go from your browser to public DNS-over-HTTPS resolvers (Cloudflare and Google).
Why do two resolvers show different results?
DNS answers are cached for the record's TTL. Right after a change, some resolvers still serve the old value. Wait for the TTL to expire and check again.
Can I look up a subdomain?
Yes. Type the full name, for example mail.example.com or _dmarc.example.com.
